Hi Jesse. Good post there. I wonder how this will dovetail with the replay rules that are also coming in. As long as everything is on a level playing field, I have no issue with this. When I cover high school games kids cannot bowl over catchers. As long as they are going to make sure the catchers are not there too early, this should work out fine.
Thank you, Charles! This seems to me to be pretty straightforward for umpires: if the catcher is blocking the plate without the ball, it's obstruction and the runner is awarded home plate.
