U-S-A! U-S-A!

So the Washington Redskins have hired Mike Shanahan as their new head coach and vice president of football operations, the Washington Nationals finalized a deal with new closer Matt Capps, and the Washington Wizards are seeing star player Gilbert Arenas deal with sports limbo - will we see him on the basketball court or in a court of law next?

Me, as a DC area sports fan, I'm most excited about this story.

In Saskatchewan last night, the United States junior hockey team defeated overwhelming favorite Canada in overtime, 6-5, to take the gold medal.  The winning goal came from defenseman John Carlson, the first round pick of the Washington Capitals in 2008 as well as the Caps' top prospect.

I'm pumped about this, especially when I read quotes like this one from United States team captain Derek Stepan:  "He's one special player.  Keep your eyes on him.  He's going to be in the NHL for a long time."

Oh yeah, man.  I'm pumped.  Rock the Red, John Carlson.  Rock the Red.
